Stay, Park & Play: Game-Day at Olympic Park Without the Parking Bill

Every big night at Sydney Olympic Park follows the same script: the game or concert is brilliant, and an easy train ride home makes it even better. Precinct parking books out early and costs a premium, the exits crawl for an hour after the final whistle, and if you've driven in from out of town you still have the long haul home ahead of you — at midnight, in a river of brake lights.

There's a better formula, and regulars have quietly used it for years: stay, park and play. Base yourself a few stops down the line at our motor inn near Sydney Olympic Park, leave the car in the hotel's free gated car park, and ride the train to the stadium like the locals do. You'll spend less, queue less and sleep in a real bed ten minutes after the encore.

How Stay, Park & Play works

The formula has three steps, and none of them involve a parking machine:

• Stay — book a night (or two) at Marco Polo Motor Inn Sydney in Summer Hill, about 8 km from the Olympic Park precinct. Ensuite rooms start from $145 Monday to Thursday and reception is staffed 24 hours, so a post-event check-in is never a problem.
• Park — drive in whenever suits you and put the car in our gated, CCTV-monitored undercover car park. It's free for guests for the whole stay, and it doesn't move again until you leave.
• Play — walk 400 metres to Summer Hill station and take the train toward Olympic Park via Lidcombe. On event nights, extra services run to and from the precinct, which means you ride out of the stadium while the car park crowd is still inching toward the exit boom gates.

Why the train beats stadium parking every time

The train is the easiest way to attend an event at Accor Stadium. It's quick in and quick out, with no need to hunt for a bay when the official car parks book out for big fixtures.

Event-night trains solve all of it. The precinct is about 15-20 minutes from us by rail via Lidcombe, services are boosted on big nights, and Olympic Park station lands you a short walk from the gates of Accor Stadium, Qudos Bank Arena, ENGIE Stadium and the Showground. Your car, meanwhile, sits safe and free behind our gates.

• Accor Stadium — NRL, State of Origin, internationals and stadium concerts
• Qudos Bank Arena — arena tours and family shows
• Sydney Showground / ENGIE Stadium — the Easter Show, GWS games and festivals
• The wider precinct — aquatic centre meets, expos and fun runs

The post-game hour is where you win

Here's the part nobody prices in: the hour after the event. Drivers spend it in a queue. Train riders spend it getting home. And guests staying with us spend it having a shower and raiding the kitchenette — every room has a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster, plus free WiFi to replay the highlights. Reception never closes, so it doesn't matter if the concert runs late or the game goes to golden point.

Next morning there's no early checkout scramble either. Sleep in, make a coffee in the room, and drive home outside peak hour with the whole weekend still feeling like a win.

Make a weekend of it

The same free-parking base works for the rest of Sydney too: the city is about 8 minutes from Summer Hill station by train, Darling Harbour is a direct L1 light rail ride from Taverners Hill, and the harbour sights are one easy connection beyond Central. Plenty of guests bolt a city day onto a stadium night — the car never moves, and Sydney does the driving.
